How to get to the Alghero caves

How to get to the Alghero Caves: a complete guide to visiting this unique place.

The Alghero area, with its alternating sandy beaches and towering limestone cliffs, offers landscapes of extraordinary beauty. Among the most striking attractions are the famous Alghero Caves, true natural jewels that open along the coast of the Porto Conte Regional Natural Park. The most famous is undoubtedly Neptune’s Grotto, but this year it’s also possible to visit the evocative Green Grotto, recently reopened to the public.

If you’re wondering how to get to the Alghero Caves, it’s important to know that for safety reasons, free parking is no longer permitted near the entrances. However, there are several convenient and eco-friendly options for reaching these natural wonders without stress.

Sea transport

Neptune’s Grotto can be reached by sea, departing from the Port of Alghero or Cala Dragunara. Choosing this type of transport will allow you to admire the splendid rocky coastline, inhale the scent of the salty sea air, and arrive directly at the cave entrance. Those arriving by land, however, will need to climb the evocative Escala del Cabirol: 654 steps overlooking the sea.

Please note: sea transport is not available for those wishing to visit the Green Grotto.

Local public transport

The ARST 9321 bus line, operating year-round, connects Alghero with Capo Caccia, where the caves are located. It’s the ideal solution for those who want to travel from Alghero without a car and affordably, while enjoying the views along the way.

Here you can find the updated timetables. Tickets are on sale in the city, on board the bus (at a higher price), or online via the Dropticket app.
