How to get to Punta Giglio

Punta Giglio is one of the most popular destinations on the Coral Riviera. Although it is not as famous as the Grottoes of Neptune or as crowded as the splendid historic center of Alghero, every year it attracts numerous visitors looking for a naturalistic oasis not far from the most beautiful beaches.

How to get to Punta Giglio?

For those who don’t know the area well, being able to reach Punta Giglio can present some difficulties. That’s why we have created this short guide to help you reach this area so full of unforgettable views and historical testimonies.

Sports traveller? Adventure on two wheels

One of the best ways to enjoy the Alghero area is on two wheels. Thanks to a wide range of rental companies, it is possible to pedal on muscle bikes or e-bikes, choosing between road or dirt road models.

Pros: you will never have parking problems, you will not risk fines and you will be able to reach practically any destination in a reasonable time

Cons: in the central summer months the temperatures are very high and pedaling under the scorching sun could prove tiring. The cycle paths do not cover the whole territory and, especially in the evening, it is necessary to have lights and adequate clothing to be noticed on the road.

Getting to Punta Giglio by bike is easy. From Alghero take the direction of Capo Caccia, following the cycle path that almost reaches Nuraghe Palmavera. From here the route continues on the road up to the Maristella roundabout. Here, turn left and follow the road to Porto Conte until you are in front of the Embarcadero. The entire main path of Punta Giglio can be covered easily even with road bikes, paying attention to the holes.

Getting to Punta Giglio by bus

Public and private lines allow you to reach Punta Giglio by covering only a few sections on foot.

  • On the ARST website you will find the two lines that connect Alghero and Maristella/Porto Conte: consult the 2023 timetable at this link
  • From May to October the Alghero Beach Bus is also active (to reach Punta Giglio, the closest stop is Hotel Porto Conte)

Getting around by car

To arrive by car, simply enter “Parcheggio di Punta Giglio” on the navigator… you must know, however, that there is very little parking, because the area previously used for parking has recently been closed following a dispute.

Especially on weekends and in the summer months this can cause inconvenience, but there are car parks both in Maristella and in Porto Conte.

But we really want to say one thing: whichever way you decide to reach Punta Giglio, you will see that it will be worth it!
